Religious Publishing and the Implications of E-books in Royalties

PRESS RELEASE

Religious Publishing and the Implications of E-books in Royalties Study Released by Cathedral Consulting Group, LLC

New York, NY, December 21, 2009 – Cathedral Consulting Group, LLC released a new research report today titled Royalty and Pricing Models in Religious Publishing: The Implications of E-books for Publishers and Content Providers.

Building on its prior research in Christian retail, Cathedral looked into the implementations of the digital age on religious publishers and content providers. To develop a better understanding of the potential impact of the digital age, Cathedral surveyed religious publishers and content providers on royalty arrangements, then researched the development of digital distribution in the music industry. Using this data, the report explores the implications of digital distribution for each of the publishers and the content providers.

The specific data on royalty arrangements is most useful in understanding the current economics to both the publisher and the content provider. The number of different impacts of the digital platforms on the economics to the publisher and content providers will cause their relationships to change dramatically. This study reviews the effects of e-readers such as Kindle and Sony E-Reader and then evaluates the potential implications of Google’s platform. These platforms have very different implications for pricing, distribution costs, and royalty rates. All of this will result in changed economics and strategies for the publisher and the content provider.

The study is available from Cathedral Consulting Group, LLC.
