The unique value of a nonprofit organization lies in its people. Nonprofit executives and employees bring to the table the combined power of a generous spirit and an unflagging commitment to the cause. The paradox arises in that in order to maximize the effectiveness of this non-profit spirit, you need to "run it like a business."

This month we'll review some basic principles that underlie good HR practices, but especially as they pertain to nonprofits. We go through the function of hiring,training and managing employees, while discussing the importance of boundaries and the role of volunteers.
